Brick & mortar studios

Brick and Mortar Studios is a community-funded, woman-owned and operated pottery studio that offers private work spaces for independent artists, community memberships, and clay classes.

Located on a sunny corner in the Inner Richmond of San Francisco, B&M feels like a home away from home for seasoned ceramicists and the clay-curious alike.

Members enjoy 24-hour access to the studio and are eager to support anyone who walks in the door with the desire to dig their hands into some clay.

This isn’t just a pottery studio, it’s a community. We’re excited you’re here and we can’t wait to meet you!

our story (it’s a good one)

One day our founder, Lindsay, was teaching a hand-building class when she dropped her still-wet piece on the floor, rendering one side totally flat. A student took one look at it and exclaimed, “It’s a ham! This must be a ham-building class!”

That spark of joy inspired an IndieGoGo campaign titled “You bring the Funds, I bring the hams.” Lindsay and her small but mighty team were able to raise 20k in exchange for ham-themed perks, including a gold-plated ham. Turns out, people love ceramic hams. Who knew?

Brick & Mortar Studios was born from the magic of a happy accident, and continues to be home to many happy accidents!

We’re grateful for the support of our community, and we’re excited to be bringing some life to our little corner of Geary Blvd. and 23rd Ave. Come join us!
