Mondays Session 2 - Hit Me With Your Best Slab
In this six-week course, students will design and build a fully functional ceramic bluetooth speaker from scratch, that combines traditional ceramic techniques with basic electronics and sound design. This class explores the intersection of craft, technology, and sculpture, guiding students through both the aesthetic and functional considerations of creating a ceramic object that produces sound.
Students will hand build or throw a custom ceramic speaker enclosure while learning how form, thickness, and internal volume affect acoustics. Students will be guided through hands on instruction with soldering to assemble a simple bluetooth speaker circuit. By the end of the course, each student will have a custom ceramic speaker ready for a week 6 dance party potluck, with all the assembled speakers together.
No prior electronics experience is needed. Basic ceramics experience is helpful but not required (wheel work will not be part of the ciriculum) Instruction will be tailored to all skill levels.
The first class will meet on Monday, February 23rd 6:30-9pm and the last class will meet on Monday, April 6th.
***We will have a break week March 23-29th. The Studio will be closed to students during that time. Our instructors will be away at a national conference that week.**
This class includes:
15 LBS of clay and the ability to purchase more
Speaker system and materials to solder electronic components
Firing of your pottery in our electric kilns
Glazes and decorating materials
Use of studio tools and equipment
A storage space to keep your work, personal tools and clay on
Access to Open Studio Hours Saturday and Sunday 12pm-4pm
Students will also be given our “artist phone number” to call in and see if they are able to get extra studio time outside of open studio hours.
6 In-person class sessions that will meet weekly on the day and time of your class. Our classes are kept small to allow students to have more one on one time and step by step instruction from our teachers.
