Friday Session 2 - Intro to the Wheel: Parent + Child (Ages 9+)

This 6-week class is designed for kids ages 9 and up to take together with a parent or guardian. No prior clay experience is needed. Our instructors will guide both kids and adults through the foundational skills of throwing on the potter’s wheel, trimming pots, and decorating and glazing finished work. By the end of the session, students will have functional ceramic pieces ready to use at home.

Class Schedule

  • First class: Friday, February 27, 5-7:30 PM

  • Last class: Friday, April 10

  • Break week: March 23–29

    • The studio will be closed to students during this time while our instructors attend a national conference.

    • Classes resume on Friday, April 3.

This class includes (per student):

  • 15 lbs of clay (with the option to purchase more)

  • Firing of work in our electric kilns

  • Access to glazes and decorating materials

  • Use of all studio tools and equipment

  • Shared storage space for work, clay, and personal tools

  • Access to Open Studio Hours on Saturdays and Sundays, 12–4 PM

  • Access to our “artist phone number” to check on possible additional studio time outside of open hours

Class Format

  • 6 in-person class sessions, meeting weekly

  • Small class size for plenty of one-on-one guidance and step-by-step instruction

  • Adults and children work side-by-side on the wheel
