Artist Window: Anna Brown & Claire Woodward

Step up to this month's window and you'll find yourself surrounded by charming wizards, cheerful fruits, playful jars, and colorful creatures. Though their styles are distinct, both Anna and Claire create work that invites curiosity, delight, and a closer look.

anna brown

San Francisco ceramic artist Anna Brown began working with clay three years ago and named her practice after her beloved dog, Tulsi, whose joyful spirit continues to inspire her work today.

Anna's pieces are populated by tiny characters that feel as though they've wandered out of a favorite childhood storybook. Her whimsical wizards, frogs, salamanders, and other small creatures are inspired by the countless hours she spent exploring outdoors as a child, searching beneath rocks and along pond edges for hidden life.

What makes Anna's work especially compelling is the sense of care and gentleness that runs through it. Each figure feels like a tiny guardian: peaceful, protective, and full of personality. Whether gathered together in colorful groups or standing alone, her characters create small worlds that encourage imagination and play.

Ultimately, Anna hopes her work reflects feelings of protection and peace, offering viewers the same sense of comfort and wonder that inspires her own creative practice.

claire (cpw pottery)

Claire’s work brings a burst of color and joy inspired by the natural world. Claire has been creating ceramics in San Francisco for the past three years, exploring forms that draw inspiration from everyday life, plants, fruits, and the small details that make us smile.

Under the name CPW Pottery, Claire creates colorful, whimsical pieces that blur the line between functional pottery and playful sculpture. Strawberry mugs become irresistible vessels for your morning coffee, while cactus-inspired jars transform ordinary storage into something delightfully unexpected.

Claire's work embraces bold color, approachable forms, and a sense of fun that makes each piece feel delightfully personal. Whether it's a bright fruit-shaped vessel or a joyful jar creature, her ceramics celebrate the simple pleasure of surrounding ourselves with objects that make us happy.

As Claire puts it, she hopes people enjoy her pieces as much as she enjoys creating them…and that sense of enjoyment shines through in every piece she makes.
